Paint to Music

Today was our last class together so what better way to end the semester with a session of painting to music!. We were told to by Ms Lisa to buy canvas to paint. However, many of us didn't buy it because of the price. I had a huge dilemma deciding whether I should spend RM100 for both canvas or just use normal watercolour paper. In the end, I decided to buy the canvas..tehehehehe :)

Our "Paint to Music" session started 30mins after our monogram presentation .Our first painting was to be painted while listening to classical music. I felt so calm and relaxing and even the angry classical music made me feel calm because listening to it was soothing. This is probably why my painting has mostly pastel colours in it. There was even a point where I got so fed up with using my paint brush and started using my fingers and hands instead. hahaha XD. I wasn't really satisfied with the outcome, but then again..ART is just a subjective thing..I may not like it..but other people may do :)

This is the outcome of my first painting :)

For the second session, we painted to "modern" music.I found this session a little bit messy in my opinion. There's a lot of songs that a mix up of a lot of genre except classical. Some song are way too loud and not my preferences and some suits me perfectly. The first song that was played was a very lively and energetic one indeed. I decided to paint the bottom left and upper right corner using bright colours such as Red,Orange and Yellow...for songs that I did not really enjoy ..I splashed black paint all over the canvas and even smeared part of it.. I couldn't quite remember what the spiral in the middle was all about.. It was really really really really sooooooo RANDOM!...I just painted it according to what I felt during that moment..

The outcome of my second painting :)

I really like the outcome of this painting because It looks very nice and colourful. Even my brother said that the painting look really nice. He mentioned to me that It's a painting worth selling...wow..I couldn't believe that my painting was really that good... Well, I'm not trying to boast here or anything...but I really do like how the painting turned out to be :)

Anyways,
I really enjoyed painting to music with my classmates.
It was also really fun to see everyone with their own art styles.
You could clearly see everyone had their own style of painting and I really loved seeing how different everyone felt about the types of music played.

Lastly I would love to thank Miss Lisa for everything she has taught me throughout my whole foundation year. I am honestly more aware of design principles now than I was when I first started the course. :)
Once again, thank you so much for everything!!

Monogram Presentation

Hey guys!!
So today we had our Monogram presentation :)
We were suppose to start at 2.30pm..However, most of us reached class quite late..including me * I do apologize for this*. As soon as I reached class, I immediately went around the studio to find a suitable corner for my monogram display. I managed to grab a spot with the lakeside at the background :).

Presentation went well I guess? managed to receive positive comments from Ms Lisa except for the fact that my posters weren't really that impressive.  Ms Lisa said that my work was neat and was also happy that I stayed with the same colour palette. As for the posters, It was really last minute work. I wasn't satisfied with the outcome as well and felt like I could have done a million times better then this.. oh well..

ITEMS THAT I'VE PRINTED ON

1.Notebook
2.File

3. Paper bag
4. Canvas bag

 5. Polka Dot pillow from DAISO

6.Envelope

Overall, I personally like this assignment very much as I think It's very useful for our future. The monograms that we have created can be used for our product logo next time :). As for me, I have always had a dream of opening up a stationary franchise.Who knows...maybe one day you'll end up seeing a " PL stationary shop"..hahaha..just joking ^^

Monogram sketches

Ever since tutorial session, I've been coming up with all sorts of sketches for my monogram. There were at times where I got really brain stuck and couldn't think of any ideas..During the next tutorial session, I couldn't make it cause I was having a really high fever at that moment.. I decided to show Ms Lisa some of sketches via Facebook. This was what she commented on my sketches
"you're certainly on the right track. keep it up!"

After taking much into consideration, Ms Lisa finally approved my sketch and I decided to go with this monogram instead :)

  - Different sizes of my monogram -

After getting my sketch approved, I then started working on printing my monogram on to 6 different items :)
-Stay tuned for the next post-

p/s : Sorry for the very few sketches...I can't seem to find some of them :(

Production 02 : Report

Things has been progressing really slowly...hmmmm..
We really don't have much time to film and yet we're still taking our own sweet time..
Like I mentioned in my previous report...I don't blame anyone for this..It's a team effort and we're suppose to encourage one another to do our work.. I think we're getting along fine as a group.. We work and understand each other well :) .I really owe Nabila a lot for being our Director... she directs us very well and gives us clear instructions on what to do during the filming process.Kudos to her for that!.

Filming has been really tiring for us, as we have tons of other final assignments to complete. But being around of them is really fun :) . We motivate and also help each other with our other assignments. Working together really helped us to build a stronger bond between our friendship. It made us realize that, there is no I in T.E.A.M!.. teamwork was definitely the key factor into a sucessful flim.

BEHIND THE SCENES

-Nabila's lovely home-
- Our very dedicated photographer-
-Filming in progress-
- Rizal and David chilling at the living room-
-Our beloved director sacrificed her nice dress by lying down on the ground just to help us film-
that was really very sweet of her do to that

Throughout the whole filming process, the weather was unbearable most of the time. We were practically sweating and sweating and sweating.. We just had to overcome it and continue shooting our film. After all, there's no point complaining. Anyways, we have just a couple more days before our film screening. Time is slowly ticking and we have a lot more to film. Honestly speaking, I'm very worried that we wouldn't finish our film on time..Our film doesn't seem to have much lighting effect as the other group..we tend to just shOot the scene as it is..without any lighting effects and stuffs..and up till this point, I still feel like our cult doesn't really show much in our film..What i mean is that..I don't think the message is strong enough.. If only we started filming earlier..I'm sure we'll do much better then this..sighhh...we just have to stay strong and not give up!..For these few days, we'll be sacrificing a lot of our time to finishing up our film..All the best to us!

Production 02 : Contextual Approach

Rizal and David argues

Filming location : Nabila's house, SS14

This scene is where David and Rizal argues about Nabila. As usual, Kim was incharge of filming. For our first few takes, we decided to film a neutral shot *Eye-level shot*. This shot is when the camera is level or looking straight on with the subject... *Refer to image below *
However, after taking much into consideration. We decided that this is not a suitable angle to film. In my opinion, I think that angle is a bit too cliche.I feel that neutral shots has little to no psychological effect on the viewer. I also think that the background is too busy and viewers may tend to lose their focus on the main subject of the scene. Kim suggested that we take close up shots as It focuses more onto Rizal and David's expression during the arguing scene. We tried to incorporate a scene from the a Noir film called "Kiss of Death" (1947).

DESIGN REFERENCE

In the end, we decided to try a technique called " over the shoulder shot " or " third-person shot ". It is a shot of someone or something taken from the perspective or camera angle  from the shoulder of another person. The reason why we decided to choose this technique is mainly because filming over an actor's shoulder focuses the audience's attention on one actor at a time in a conversation, rather than on both.

We took quite long filming this as there were many talking parts in this scene. It was really difficult as the script wasn't easy to memorize. We were under so much of pressure trying to finish up this scene. There were times where we ended up laughing and making jokes to entertain and keep ourselves awake.hahaha XP.

BEHIND THE SCENES :D

sitting on the road like a boss XP

Flashback scene

Filming location : a park at SS14

This scene is where David has flashback memories of when Kim was explaining to him about the job that his father left for him. We went to the park just right behind Nabila's house which we think was suitable for the scene.Well, nothing beats the scenery of mother nature..with all the greens surround us :). Many people think that Noir films are mostly filmed during the night..but I personally think It's not necessary.Having natural light from the Sun also gives out a nice lighting effect. We couldn't really decide on which angle was the most suitable..therefore..we just experimented with all sorts of angles for this scene.During the filming at the park, there were loads of distractions that we had to overcome!.. kids...dogs barking..birds chirping..goshhh. ..our patience level was really tested at that moment. Despite all the distractions, we still managed to finish filming the flashback scene..yayy! :)
