What is a hero?

Hello again!
For this week's class we are required to do a group work
My group consist of 5 members including me which are

*Nicholas
*Dzauqi
*Nabila
*Vivian
*Pui Leng (me)

We were basically instructed to create a mind map on "What is a superhero?".Mr Charles gave us 5minutes to write down anything related to superhero that pops up in our mind .This was the outcome of my group's mind map ^^

Our next instruction from Mr Charles is to pick a word that describe the best about a superhero
We decided to go with the word "sacrifice" in the end.The reason why is because a hero works beyond the scope of his or her job, possibly as a volunteer. Not only that, a hero responds to a social need, or the needs of a person or group. A hero moves out of her comfort zone for example like doing something she has no experience with and may even sacrifice her life on the line.

At the end of this lesson, Mr Charles gave us a brief description on our next group work. He mentioned to us that a mind map generally consist of 6 parts which are

1) Information - White
2) Positive - Yellow
3) Negative - Black
4) Creativity - Green
5) Organization - Blue
6) Feelings - Red

We have to create another mind map using the technique that he has shown us in class. As soon as class was dismissed, me and my group members discussed on who is going to do which topic. In the end, I decided to go with the topic of "Organization"

Description of my Artwork

First of all, my inspiration for "Pop Art" came from the very well known artist "Andy Warhol". It was like a golden opportunity when I got the chance to visit the "Andy Warhol Exhibition" in Singapore last year. The exhibtion was really an eye-opener to me.I always believe that art should be simple & accessible. So this explains why I’m drawn to Warhol’s work because he took everyday object & convert it into an art.Besides that,I like the idea of how he mix and matches colours whih combines together to form a very lively and cheerful image. To me, that is what "Pop Art:" is all about; lively, cheerful and colourful. However,I tried to incorporate that idea and came out with a different meaning into my design. The picture that I've drawn here,is basically a self potrait of myself. How does this potrait actually represent me?.Well, the emotion/feeling that i'm trying to convey in this picture is actally depression.Just a brief story about what I actually mean about that. As you all know, I was the only student that didn't attend Orientation Day.Being one week late to college made me felt quite depressed about it.Mainly because I felt left out and lonely most of the time.So as you can see, I tried to express my emotion and feelings through my drawing. Furthermore, the colour combination that I've choosen are very vibrant and strong colours which makes my drawing stand out more.If you noticed, my potrait also has some small details in it.For instance, the spectacles,my watch and also the design on my clothing. These little small details play a very important part in the drawing as it will look quite plain if it wasn't for it's excistence. Therefore, I shall conclude my presentation for today. The end ,Thank you

Anyways, here is my final artwork that I'll be presenting infront of class tomorrow (24/4/2013).
I've really put alot effort and hardwork into .Not to mention, the ammount of time taken to complete this...haha..couldn't believe i actually used up 3hours+++ for this..Nevertheless, I feel proud of myself for creating such an artwork like this.

First activity in class :)

Hey there peeps!
For our first activity in class.
Mr Charles told us to bring modeling clay, marker pen and also butter paper

To be honest, I was rather curious on what we were going to do with all these materials.

We were then given instructions regarding this activity. Mr Charles told us to listen to some music and produce an artwork based on what we felt about the music being played. It was a rather weird activity but I found it quite interesting as I managed to produce an amazing artwork of my own :)..Wow! music does really bring out the creative side of me ..hahahaha XD

Presenting to you my FINAL ARTWORK!!

Here are some of my other coursemates artwork :)

Design Process

In this post, I'll be explaining to you my design process for my final artwork XD

3) Draw in the 2nd quadrant
p/s : This is a combination of the 1st and 2nd quadrant

1 on 1 Tutorial

This was what I presented to Ms Lisa during the 1 on 1 Tutorial last week (17/4/2013)
My feedback/suggestions/comments from Ms Lisa
- Try not to make the hair look like a "blob"
-Understand your picture in detail-
-Do more research-
-Overall it's a good concept/drawing-
Well, that was basically the things she mentioned to me, this is just my first time attending Principle of Design class...but I dont take that as an excuse for getting such feedbacks from her.Instead,I'm going to use those feedbacks to create a better artwork for the final presentation next week.^__^

My Inspiration

Well, bascially I've gotten my inspiration from a very well known artist which is "Andy Warhol". When I knew there is an Andy Warhol exhibition going on at the Art Science Museum Singapore., I was so excited. I always have been a fan of Andy Warhol since young. I always believe that art should be simple & accessible. So this explains why I’m drawn to Warhol’s work because he took everyday object & convert it into an art.

For those who do not know about Andy Warhol, he is an American painter, printmaker, and filmmaker. Later in his life when his artworks were recognized by many, he was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as Pop Art and was renowned for using mass production of popular culture such as advertising, comic books, and brand products, as the basis of his art.

Pop Art

Hey everyone! I'm back :)
For today's topic..I'll be talking about "POP ART"
Pop art is an art movement that emerged in the mid-1950s in Britain and in the late 1950s in the United States.[Pop art presented a challenge to traditions of fine art by including imagery from popular culture such as advertising, news, etc. In Pop art, material is sometimes visually removed from its known context, isolated, and/or combined with unrelated material. The concept of pop art refers not as much to the art itself as to the attitudes that led to it
Pop art employs aspects of mass culture, such as advertising, comic books and mundane cultural objects. It is widely interpreted as a reaction to the then-dominant ideas of abstract expressionism, as well as an expansion upon them. And due to its utilization of found objects and images it is similar to Dada. Pop art is aimed to employ images of popular as opposed to elitist culture in art, emphasizing the banal or kitschy elements of any given culture, most often through the use of irony.[2] It is also associated with the artists' use of mechanical means of reproduction or rendering techniques.
Much of pop art is considered incongruent, as the conceptual practices that are often used make it difficult for some to readily comprehend. Pop art and minimalism are considered to be art movements that precede postmodern art, or are some of the earliest examples of Post-modern Art themselves.[4]
Pop art often takes as its imagery that which is currently in use in advertising.[5] Product labeling and logos figure prominently in the imagery chosen by pop artists, like in the Campbell's Soup Cans labels, by Andy Warhol. Even the labeling on the shipping box containing retail items has been used as subject matter in pop art, for example in Warhol's Campbell's Tomato Juice Box 1964, (pictured below), or his Brillo Soap Box sculptures.
Hmm...you all must be wondering how does pop art actually look like right?
Well..here are some examples! XD

Art Movement?

So, what is Art Movement???

haha..not to worry...I'm here to explain what "Art Movement" is all about :)
Well, according to Wikipedia.. An art movement is a tendency or style in art with a specific common philosophy or goal, followed by a group of artists during a restricted period of time, (usually a few months, years or decades) or, at least, with the heyday of the movement defined within a number of years. Art movements were especially important in modern art , when each consecutive movement was considered as a new avant-garde
Quite hard to understand isn't it? Well..from what I've gained from the above information..I think "Art movement" is like a style of drawing...for example, pop art, digital art, graffiti and many more. As times goes by, many new styles of art movements have been developed.I'm not too sure if my explanation is correct..but, bare in mind..I'm just trying my best to simplify the above information XD...so..dont take this information too seriously okay? hahahaha
