Final Submission - Greeting Cards

Bello everyone!! XD.
I'm finally done making my greeting cards after 2 days of hardwork!
As mentioned in the previous post..
the theme that I decided to go for is "National Day"...
I've chosen "St Patrick's Day", "4th of July" as well as "Russia Day"
for the style greeting card..I went for a more challenging option which was to make an "Explosion Box"
Overall, I had a really fun time making these card as I personally enjoy doing handicraft works :)

So...let's take a look at the outcome of my greeting card collection ^_^

Here is how the greeting cards look like before it's opened up

After the "Explosion Box" has been opened up

TADAAAAA!!!
SO AWESOME RIGHT??!!! XD

A closer look into my greeting cards

1) 4th of July
-Box cover-

Left : For the centerpiece of the explosion box, I've decided to make a 3D version of Uncle Sam. Who is Uncle same you say??.. well, he is a common national personification and American government.
Right : This is the view of my greeting card when the lid of the box is opened up.The colours that I've used for the card represents the colours on the national flag

2) St Patrick's Day
 -Box cover-

 - For the centerpiece, I've decied to make a 3D version of an Leperchaun Hat. A Leperchaun is basically a magical creature/fairy that keeps a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Whoever who finds the pot of gold will be granted 3 wishes from the leperchaun itself. How cool right?

-This is how my St.Patrick's Day card looks like on the inside -

3) Russia Day
 -Box cover-

Left : I have chosen Matryoshka dolls as my centerpiece..LOL..I didn't make these dolls...I was surprised that I actually have them at home..so I decided to make full use of it :D.Matryoshka dolls are a set of wooden dolls decreasing size placed one inside the other.

During the presentation day , we gathered at the Design Studio around 11 in the morning. We were instructed by Ms Lisa to neatly arrange our greeting cards on the tables around the studio. I was the 3rd last to present my greeting cards. Before my turn, I was really nervous as I witnessed so many awesome cards made by my fellow course mates. This made me felt as if my cards were not as good as theirs. When it came to my turn, I explained to Ms Lisa and my course mates about the greeting cards that I made. However, not all of them were listening to my presentation at that moment. Ms Lisa was really impressed with my work and told those who haven't seen it to come take a look at it .My course mates were really amazed with what I have made. I felt so happy and satisfied at that moment because of all the positive feedbacks that I recieved.Overall, everyone did a very good job into making their cards.
At the end of our presentation, Ms Lisa told us that she could see improvement in most of us throughout Semester 1.Not only that, we even got GOOD NEWS from her..hahaha... she told us that our final assignment marks will be swapped to the "Colour Wheel Assignment" instead of using Greeting Cards as our final assignment....YAY!! ^_^.. Anyways, big thanks to Ms Lisa for being such an awesome lecturer! It's been a really splendid time being around in your class :) . Thanks for all the guidance and knowledge that you have shared with me about the Principles of Design. The knowledge and information that I've gained will hopefully be put into use during the upcoming semester and most probably in the future too ^^ haha.. thank you once again for being so patience with the crazy bunch of FID students from April Intake 2013! XP.. Take care and see you during the second semester!! :)

Super Hero Poster

This poster that I made is for our very last CTS assignment. We we're not allowed to do any digital work for this poster.Mr Charles encouraged us make things in 3D or even use the technique of collage. The size required for this poster is A3.Just a brief description about what my poster is about. On the top right ..you can see the word "Sweet Sour" which is actually my superhero name. The background that I've chosen is a colourful cloudy background. I personally feel that this background is suitable for my character because of it's light pastel colours. What is actually means is that, pastel colours are more for cute and sweet stuffs :). To give it a more 3D looking effect, I stuck on some cotton wools to make it look like clouds ^^ .cool right??. Not only that, butterfly sequins are also stucked on to the poster to give it a more lively look.

Greeting Card Research

After countless amount of research ..I've decided to go with the theme of National Day. The style that I'm going for will be "Explosion Box". Below are some references that I've searched up in the internet. :)

Final Assignment!

Hey everyone!

Class was canceled for this week and Ms Lisa gave us our final assignement
Here was what she posted up on our FID group page :)

A SET OF 3 GREETING CARDS! (YEAY!)

what you need to do is, research and pick a theme that will run consistently though your set of 3 cards. you may choose any occasion to celebrate, but as always i urge you to think beyond the norm!

you must convincingly utilize ALL elements and principles of design that i have been drumming into you throughout the entire semester, so your compositions must be balanced / present the understanding of the rule of thirds, they should be proportionate, your colors must make sense, your choice of typography (digital or handwritten) must compliment your layout etc.

you may choose to use any material and method you wish to experiment with i.e collage, pop-up, paper cutting, stamping, illustration etc on card, fabric, wood, aluminium etc. i would suggest keeping the cards at a manageable size i.e A5 or so. you may opt to custom make your own envelopes as well so that they match each card perfectly, or you may also opt to make matching envelope liners as well / instead.

you may message me or preferably start a conversation thread here with any queries. but knowing you lot, you'll all manage very, very well! your dateline is 21st august 2013 at 11am. we'll meet up in the studio as usual for your last class

i think that pretty much covers it...this is a super fun assignment, and i dont want to confine or restrict your creativity. if in doubt, KEEP IT SIMPLE! so do have as much fun making the cards as you can! have a good study break!

Presentation day!

31st of July 2013 marks our presentation day!

Our presentation time was brought forward to 7pm.
This is because Ms Lisa thinks it's much more interesting if the 3D models can light up in the dark.Prior to the presentation, we had several problems trying to manouver our model from the studio to the lakeside.During the morning of the presentation, our model actually fell apart while halfway bringing it down to the lake. We were rather disappointed at that moment and almost lost hope on the assignment. But then again, we stayed strong and managed to overcome the problems that we faced. My group was the first to float our 3D model. Another challenging part of this assignment was to actually carry the model down into the mini lake. With the help of other groups, our model was safely carried down into the lake. It was such a huge relief to see our wonderful carousel floating on the mini lake. We were all so happy of our accomplishment! :) .Anyways, the other groups all did a fantastic job as well and I'm sure that we have all tried our best already right? .What i learned from this assignment is that TEAMWORK is a definite MUST in order to accomplish this assignment. Not only that, I also learn that we should always keep calm and stay positive no matter what happens. ^_^

Here is some pictures taken during the presentation day

Come to think of it, 1 month really passed by so fast!. I'm really satisfied with the outcome and I sure did have alot of fun during the whole process of making this carousel. Big thanks to Ms Lisa for all the guidance and help. Not to forget, my awesome group mates for puting in alot of effort into finishing this assignment.I would also like to thank my other course mates for giving us help when needed :) .We couldn't have done it without the help and support of EVERYONE!

Carousel Making Progress

Our work in progress!
It was definitely like a roller coaster journey throughout the whole process of making this carousel.Being the group leader was really not an easy task at all!.We had to go through alot of arguements everytime as we all had different opinions.I tried my very best to keep my group together but there were times that I just couldn't handle the stress anymore. I then said to myself, Just keep calm and stay positive. Everything is going to pay off in the end ". Nevertheless, we still managed to put all those problems aside and produce an amazing outcome :) .Here's a video that I created about our work progress.Enjoy!
